GREYTON CLASSIC

3 events to choose from

MTB,    Trail Run  or   Duo Cycle/Run

18 JUNE 2011

The GREYTON CLASSIC once again brings loads of exciting cycling and running challenges along the foot of the majestic Sonderend mountain range.  Action packed with loads of fun for the whole family.   The magnificent historical farm, The Oaks is where all the action takes place.

New singletrack has been included in both the long routes and trail improvements worked on to keep it exciting.  The latest addition to the event is the  solo combo 21km cycle and 10km run to really challenge yourself.    The scenery is incredible, with views over dams and surrounding farms. You may encounter some friendly Alpacas and sheep on route!

The routes encompass varied terrain, animal and jeep track and around 10km’ s of  singletrack with a good flow to avoid bottlenecks.   Waterstations are sponsored by Greyton Tourism, Rockhopper Cycles (Greyton) and Overberg Water and promise to keep your thirst quenched.

The timing of this event is great training for July Knysna !

The MTB will be timed by Pedal Power so dont forget to bring your timing chip. This will be a seeded event.

The trail run and duo will be seperately timed. Cyclists taking part in the Duo will be issued with a running number and do not require their Pedal Power seeded number.

Route descriptions :

MTB  45km

45km  A tough solid route needs fitness, traversing 6 farms with a  huge variety of terrain including singletrack, jeep & animal track, rocky sections, through forest, fynbos, orchards, around dams & vineyards  almost 1000m of climbing and incredible views across the valleys of the Overberg.  Be alert on the fast descents.   After a warm up of approx 5kms through orchards and gravel road you hit the first short sharp hills of Lismore Wine Estate and then amazing singletrack.   Climb to a mountain-top airstrip and ‘fly’ down again. The last section  levels out, with a fast  ride to the finish line.

Route for the MTB, Trail Run & Duo  21km

21km follows the first half of the 45km route which includes all the great forest singletrack and ensures a great workout with enough climbing to get the heart rate up. Although moderately technical, you need to be on your toes !  Beautiful scenery, cycling around the dams, through the orchards and paddocks and little bridge crossings.

For trail runners, the 21km route is not technical, but includes great singletrack and will ensure a good workout with both undulating and moderately steep climbs, but no rock scrambling.

The 10km is straight forward, mosly jeep track which will give you a faster pace.

Route for the MTB, Trail Run & Duo  10km

10km is suitable for all level of cyclists & runners. The route takes you through orchards, vineyards and around the dam. Moderate climbs with fun sections to conquer and stunning fun riding through the countryside.
